Central and Peripheral Mechanisms of Neurodegeneration - UMR_S 1118
Key words
Neurobiology – Neurodegenerative diseases – Molecular biology – Cell biology – Motor neurones – Muscles – Metabolism
Overview
This research unit is part of the Laboratory of Molecular Signalling and Neurodegeneration, which conducts multidisciplinary research on neurodegenenerative diseases. Its researchers actively collaborate with Strasbourg hospitals and various institutions across France and Europe. The unit’s biomedical work is focused on therapeutical and aspects and diagnosis of dementia ( Alzheimer’s for instance) and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Its fundamental research includes the development of new techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry and histology.
Research focus
Research is organised around five projects :
- Energetic metabolism and motor neurone diseases
- ALS diagnostical and therapeutical biomarkers
- Modifications in epigenetic programs and neurodegenerative diseases
- Stress signaling in the nervous system and the role of p53 proteins
- Development and characterisation of new animal models of neurodegenerative diseases
